What started as just another training walk turned into something surprisingly peaceful.
I wasn’t looking for a moment of reflection—I just needed some fresh air, a little mud, and a loop around the trail at Dorchester Lake Park to keep up with my MudGirl race training.
But then I saw them.
Geese. Families of them.
Not just one, but three different groups, with goslings in tow.
It was around noon. A light rain had started, and I was midway through the walk, debating whether to cut around a different direction to avoid disturbing them. If you’ve ever crossed paths with geese, you know—they don’t always take kindly to guests.
But I decided to walk through anyway.
Not with force.
Not with fear.
Just with calm.
And something beautiful happened.
They didn’t hiss.
They didn’t rush away.
They simply… let me walk with them.
One family stayed especially close, moving gently along the path beside me. The others were nearby, grazing quietly or heading down the small hill near the stream. In all, there were at least 14 geese and goslings scattered peacefully across that part of the trail.
There was no drama. No resistance. No noise.
Just motion. Stillness. Coexistence.
And in a world that can often feel loud or overcomplicated, that moment felt like a breath.
🌼 What This Walk Reminded Me
Sometimes, you don’t need a big breakthrough.
Sometimes the message is in how the world responds to your presence.
That you can move through space without disruption.
That calmness is enough.
That not everything has to be earned through effort.
It’s easy to overlook moments like this when we’re focused on our goals (like a 5K obstacle course race!). But when I looked back at the video I took and the photos I snapped, I realized I hadn’t just gone for a walk—I had been welcomed into a moment I didn’t have to control.
👣 Still Walking, Still Learning
Whether it’s for training or peace of mind, walking outdoors has become a grounding ritual for me lately. Encounters like this remind me that being present—really present—can be just as restorative as any formal self-care practice.
And the best part?
It happened on an everyday trail, in the middle of a quiet Sunday, without planning or expectation.
A quiet crossing. A peaceful walk. A moment shared.
💬 Reflection Prompt
Have you ever had nature pause with you instead of move away from you? What did it make you feel or notice?
Thanks for walking with me today.
Until the next trail,
